Meeting Kevin In Glasgow - Pictures And Story

Aaaaaah I still can't believe I met Kev and gave him the fan-book!! I hope he loved it and knows hows much 'Mark & Kevin Lovers' adore him haha! The story and mine and Kim's pictures with him follow:*Note that the quotes are not obviously exactly how things were said as I don't remember the exact words 'It all happened on 20 March which was meant to be my lucky day haha! First I went to the lads' hotel which was quite far out of Glasgow center to try my luck. I saw Nicky, Georgina and the twins who were sooo cute but no sign of Mark and Kev. Apparently they were not staying there. Then I started thinking that if I see Kev at the arena I would give him the book there. When I arrived at SECC and saw how huge the arena was I was like, 'ok that's it I don't think I can spot Kev here nevermind manage to get to him'. But my luck didn't leave me lol and the lovely Dutch girls held a surprise for me! I was trying to find my seat which was 4th row and I hear Kim callling my name and she told me that I could sit at the front row with them as a Dutch girl has cancelled! I was like OMG!!! I couldn't believe I was front row haha as I've never been front row before!I sat with them and we were getting ready for the concert, all excited and cheery hehe, I met Jo with Amy and we had a great chat hihi, then the Support Acts started so I went in my seat. THEEEEN... I see Kim walking quickly! She has spotted Kev!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! OMG I started trembling and I run behind her taking the fan-book quickly off my bag! Kev was going backstage at the moment so Kim called his name and he turned around. AAAAAAARH he was standing there looking at us and looking soooo gorgeous *melts*..........Kim gave him his cookies hihi and he said to her he'd give them backstage cause he thought they were not for him bless! Kim told him they were for him and he thanked her and was so sweet!! Then, trying not to faint lol, I told him giving him the book 'This is a birthday book for you' and he was like 'Oooh a birthday book! Thank you!' and I said 'I know your birthday was a few weeks ago but we've made it with all our love at our site for you and Mark, Mark & Kevin Lovers!' and then he said 'Ooooh Mark & Kevin Lovers! I go there alot, there is everything that happens, always put right away and first!'... by that moment I was totally shaking and frozzen so honestly I don't remember if he said anything else I was looking at him, touching him on his shoulder going 'Oh My God, do you!!!'...Then Kim asked Kev if she could have a picture with him and he said yep and she asked me if I can take the pic and of course I did but errrrm ok I have to say my hands were totally shaking and I was messing things with my camera lol. I bet Kev might thinks I have no idea of cameras lol it was funny, I had the camera settings turned on ISO to be ready for the concert as that setting takes good concert pix and I took the pic with ISO lmao and that has no flash so Kev and Kim were standing there looking at my camera and I was like 'Emmm I didn't put flash on...' and Kev went 'Yeah, I figured out.' So I changed the setting while Kev and Kim were still standing there posing And I finally took a second pic of them with hands shaking of course, not to forget that Once I took the pic I started asking Kev 'Can I have one too please?' but awwwwwwww I didn't even need to finish my setnence, almost didn't even start it because Kev has already put his hand out for me to go and have pic with him so I didn't continue with the question lol and went 'Awww thank youuuuu!' and he was smiling bleeeeess... So I went in his hug and was feeling like in heaven for these seconds while Kim was taking the pic Aaaah then we said bye to him and he said to us and thanked us and walked backstage, and me and Kim hugged each other and started screaming to eachother I was feeling so happy having met Kev and giving him the book too. Before that, I have almost lost hope I would meet him and was trying to think in what other way we could give him the book too...xxx Villy'

Westlife Boys Hit The Town

Beverley Lyons And Laura Sutherland Exclusive WESTLIFE celebrated their four-night stint in Glasgow by going out to an Irish bar. Kian, Shane, Nicky and Mark played a blinding set at the city's SECC last week culminating with their final night on Saturday. While Shane and Kian stayed at the exclusive Mar Hall Hotel, Mark and Nicky decided to stay in separate accommodation in the city centre, preferring the hustle and bustle. But the boys hadn't really let their hair down until Friday night when they decided to hit the town. Shane said: "Me and the boys are going out tonight to an Irish bar. We haven't really been out yet in Glasgow as we've been hanging out with family and friends, but we decided it was time to thank our crew by giving them a good night out." The boys spent the majority of their time at Waxy O'Connor's bar in the city in a private area and left in the small hours of Saturday morning. Shane also revealed he is delighted that he'll be a father for the second time. He said: "I am thrilled at the news and I am looking forward to the birth of my new child. "We'll be having a few drinks to celebrate that tonight as well."

Could this Bramles Farm octogenarian be Westlife’s oldest fan?

Sprightly 80-year-old Marjorie Whiteford gave exuberant young concert-goers a run for their money when she saw her favourite pop group play at Newcastle’s Metro Arena.
Click here to view a slideshow of Marjorie
"It was so good, I was Flying Without Wings,” she joked, making reference to one of her favourite Westlife hits. “I’ve liked the band for years and always sing along to their songs. I love all kinds of music. “I might be the big 8-0 but I felt like I was 21 again at the concert. “Being this age is absolutely wonderful.”Widow Marjorie, of Pallister Avenue, Brambles Farm, Middlesbrough, is also the longest-standing member of St Thomas’ Church. She’d barely caught her breath after seeing her favourite boy band when the next day friends, family and members of the clergy threw her a surprise party at the church - a chapel within Brambles Primary School. Marjorie started attending the church opposite her house when it opened 72 years ago and was devastated when it was razed to the ground last June. The building fell foul of vandals and general decay, and the church moved to the school. But the relocation hit church numbers hard and existing members are trying to encourage more support from the community. Marjorie and her late husband, Michael, were the first couple to be married at the church in August 1948, and her three children Ann, Irene and Michael, were all christened there. In her teens, Marjorie was an “M&S girl”. She lived in Park End for a few years after she and Michael were married, before moving to Brambles Farm.Fellow church member and warden Joyce Collighan, pictured with Marjorie and Marjorie's son and daughter, Michael and Ann, arranged the surprise party to celebrate Marjorie’s 80th birthday milestone, joined by rural dean Eric Wilson and Father Terry Leithley.Joyce said: “Marjorie is St Thomas’ rock. “She has stood by this church through thick and thin, even ill health. “Other members went to new churches when it was pulled down but not her. “She’s been part of the church since she was a toddler and she’s one of our most faithful members.“She cried for a week when they pulled the church down and has never missed a service.“She’s really remarkable, a lovely person. “She’s very well liked wherever she goes. “People think the world of her.”

How The Macdonald Brothers Out-Partied Westlife

Beverley Lyons And Laura SutherlandYOU know you're getting past it when the Macdonald Brothers outdrink you.But that is exactly what has happened on Westlife's latest tour. The Ayrshire brothers are two of the nicest people in showbiz but they don't exactly have a big reputation for partying. But Craig and Brian, who played Glasgow with the Irish heart-throbs last night, have been showing the Westlife boys how it's done.Craig said: "We are a bit more up for a drink than Westlife. After each show we've been kicking about with the crew and are quite keen to stay up late. Westlife, on the other hand, have gone back to the hotel after pretty much every gig."Shane takes his family with him wherever he goes and his newly pregnant wife has been by his side at every moment of the tour, as well as his wee daughter."They are a lovely family and Shane's wife told us she was expecting a baby."Nicky's partner has also been with him, although Kian and Mark haven't brought their partners yet."I suppose we are them eight years ago." The Macs, who recently released their third album, With Love For Mother's Day, claim they are still happy being single. Brian said: "It's the best time in our lives and we are loving it."The guys are thrilled to have secured a deal with a label in Asia and Australia.Craig said: "Our manager Gordon Campbell and his business partner Stuart 'Woody' Wood have done a deal with a company called Big Jo-Ke, Destra and Sony BMG over there and we will have a full tour lined up later in the year."Brian and Craig have been only too happy to take some guidance from Wood, who experienced life Down Under with the Bay City Rollers. Brian said: "The Rollers were massive in China and Hong Kong and Stuart has been through a lot and is able to tell us things about the place. I'm not sure whether we'll be singing Shanghai-a-lang but we'll do our best."

Shane and Gillian ready to bop with new baby

By Barry Egan
IT'S OFFICIAL. Irish weather obviously doesn't have the X Factor. Louis Walsh jetted out to Miami on Thursday afternoon for three weeks of r'n'r. No, I don't know what r'n'r stands for either. The X-Factor judge has, of course, a second home in the Florida hot spot of South Beach (or should that be a third home, as he also has a place in St John's Wood in London?) Meanwhile, his charge in Westlife, Shane Filan, has good news. His gorgeous wife Gillian is three months pregnant with their second child (they already have a daughter, Nicole). "It wasn't exactly a surprise to my friends and family," Shane told me, "because we are taking a year off after our big gig at Croke Park. So you could say we timed it perfectly, managing to coordinate having a baby when the band are taking a year off." Shane and Gillian will have a choice of where to raise the new baby when he or she arrives in the summer: They have a seven-bedroom mansion in Surrey and a six-bedroom stately pile in Sligo. Speaking of model mums, Irish supermodel Ali MacDowell recently did a Benetton show with her six-year-old son, Alex. "He stole the show. At the finale, the crowd was clapping and he was still on the ramp. Instead of getting shy, he started jumping up and down with his arms out," Ali told me, adding that Alex and his four-year-old sister Sara have a show together next week. "They get more work than most models in Ireland!" A Cavalli-clad Ali was seen holding court on the Friday of last weekend in Peploe's with her dad Michael and other absolutely fabulous John Compton models Valerie Phelan, Lauren Bannon and Faith. Still on the subject of Irish fashion, Brown Thomas had its Cork Spring Summer season launch on Wednesday at its newly refurbished store (it has recently had a €4m facelift). Among the 350 guests who attended were Marie Chawke, manager of Aghadoe Heights hotel, Mary Purcell of Aer Lingus, Claire Nash, president of the Cork Business Association, and Ronan O'Gara's wife Jessica O'Gara with her sister Katie (presumably they both went to London yesterday to roar on Ronan at Twickenham when he captained Ireland against England? Intriguingly, England rugby legend Johnny Wilkinson -- on the bench yesterday -- will be in Dublin on April 10 to open up the Hackett menswear store on South Anne Street.). The models on the night included reigning Miss Ireland, Blathnaid McKenna (stunning in a Missoni M pink and coral multi-knit striped dress), Kelly O'Byrne (in a black and neon pink butterfly print tunic dress by Matthew Williamson), Aoife Cogan (in a Diane von Furstenberg green parachute silk dress) and Lizanna Kirwan in multi-coloured silkfloral dress by Chloe.

New Blog From Shane

Shane has a very special announcement that he'd like to personally share with all Westlife fans:
Announcement from Shane
'Hi everyone
You've probably all heard the news by now, but I wanted to let you know personally that Gillian and I are having another baby!
I can't even begin to describe how amazing we're both feeling right now - as you can image, we're completely over the moon and Nicole is very excited at the thought of having a little brother or sister to play with.
The baby is due in September, so quite a while to go yet, although I'm sure it'll fly by really quickly. Gillian's bump is growing by the day and she's extremely happy and healthy.
I look forward to introducing the new member of the Filan clan to you later in the year!
Love Shane.'

Unbreakable: 2008 NZ Tour Edition At No.2!

Go West

Nicky Byrne, Shane Filan, Kian Egan and Mark Feehily are due here for four concerts in May and following on from their Close Up TV interview, an all-new tour edition of their Greatest Hits set Unbreakable rockets straight to #2 on this week’s Albums Chart. It's the second time that Westlife have debuted at #2 - which remains their highest placing to date, yet to break the barrier to #1. Previously as a five-piece Coast To Coast landed in the silver slot in December 2000, then in 2006 The Love Album made it to #2 as well. The original version of Unbreakable peaked at #4 six years back. The Irishmen have topped the Singles Chart just the once, staying one week with the gold-certified Swear It Again in 1999.

Westlife New Single Us Against The World

Fresh from the huge success of their massive album ‘Back Home’, the reigning kings of pop Westlife return with their brand new single ‘Us Against The World’, released March 3rd through Syco Music/SonyBMG.
'Us Against The World’ is a beautiful, haunting ballad that perfectly showcases the smooth vocal talents of the band. With lush strings, soaring harmonies and an indelible melody, the track has already proved to be a firm favourite with Westlife fans and was the standout performance on their recent ITV prime time special ‘The Westlife Show: Live’.
The track is the second single to be taken from Westlife’s new album ‘Back Home’, which entered the UK charts at No.1 last November, incredibly providing the band with their seventh UK No.1 album and spending eight weeks in the Top 10.
'Back Home’ is a confident collection of twelve brand new pop songs, recorded over the summer, with production credits including Quiz Larossi, Per Magnusson, and Rami and Arnthor alongside long time friend and collaborator Steve Mac. The album has to date sold an amazing 1 million copies in just eight weeks.
Nicky from the band says: “Us Against The World is our favourite track on the album and one of our best songs ever. It has a beautiful melody and as soon as we recorded it we knew it just had to be a single”
Mark adds: “This song is a symbol of Westlife recording the kind of songs we really believe in. Good quality well produced pop music, which is exactly what our loyal fans deserve. It’s a taste of what's to come in the future. In my eyes it’s also one of our best vocal performances ever."
No pop band can compare to Westlife’s remarkable success. In their nine and a half years on top they have sold over 40 million records globally. In the UK alone they have scored nine multi-platinum albums and a record breaking 14 No.1 hits (behind only Elvis and The Beatles). Westlife have also picked up innumerable awards and appeared on hundreds of magazine covers around the world. They are the only recording artists to win the prestigious ‘Record Of The Year’ an incredible four times (other top awards include two BRITS and an MTV Europe Award). Westlife are also the biggest selling Arena act ever, holding the record for the most concerts held at Wembley Arena, an incredible 23.
2008 is a very special year for Westlife as it marks the tenth anniversary of their incredible career. This spring will see the band return to arenas across the country for the ‘Back Home Tour 2008’. Promising evenings of seamless pop precision, the tour will travel across the UK in February and March, including stops at London’s O2 and the Manchester Evening News Arena. The band will then celebrate an amazing decade at the top in spectacular style with a huge concert at Dublin’s massive Croke Park on Sunday 1st June in front of over 80,000 fans.

Will Westlife be back?

by Gavin Allen, South Wales Echo THROUGHOUT their career Westlife have fought off rumours that they may be splitting and it’s no different this time around. After a decade in the studio and on the road the boys have announced they will be taking a year off when their current Back Home Tour finishes. That has led to speculation in the tabloid press that the band is calling it a day, something they have denied, although not all their fans are convinced.“I know they are a bit older now and they are more of man band than a boy band but I still don’t want them to break up,” said Joyce Ballantyne, a Westlife fan from Ely, Cardiff. But if I was a betting man I would put my money on this massively successful act returning in the summer of 2009 with a new album and tour. Why? Well, call me an old cynic, but the fact is that Westlife were formerly managed by Ronan Keating, who has just reunited his old act Boyzone for a tour that begins in Belfast on May 28.That’s three days before Westlife end their UK tour and relinquish their stranglehold on the boy band market, which leaves their mate and ex-manager a free run at the space they leave.Boyzone play at Cardiff International Arena on May 29 and June 6-8.Call CIA on 029 2022 4488 to book.

'Us Against The World' No.8 In The UK

Hi everyone! Sorry for the late update.
Unfortunately 'Us Against The World' didn't manage to get in the top5 of he UK singles chart and is at No.8 this week up from last week's No.40. It's the first time a Westlife single doesn't go in the top5 which is a shame as it's a lovely song in my opinion.
'Back Home' is down at No.31 from last week's No.23 in the UK albums chart.

Sisters are mad about the Westlife boys

by Gavin Allen, South Wales Echo WESTLIFE are celebrating their tenth anniversary this year. Gavin Allen looks at what the future holds for them ... and why two Cardiff sisters are their biggest fansWESTLIFE-mad sisters Joyce and June are united in their love for Shane Filan but meeting him would likely set them at war.“If we were to both meet Shane I think we’d be fighting over him,” laughed June, “I don’t think we’d be loving sisters for very long.”Everyone has a pop star they fancy and for Joyce Ballantye and June Young it’s Westlife’s Sligo singer “with the million megawatt smile that can light up the darkest room” (or at least that’s what bandmate Mark Feehily says).Joyce, 46, and June, 61, have matching framed photographs of Shane in their living rooms and think nothing or shelling out £60-£70 each on the band every year they perform in Cardiff.“As soon as we see the announcement in the Echo we go straight to the CIA to buy some tickets,” said June, a retired cleaner.“We probably spend £60-£70 a time because the tickets cost around £32, the T-shirts are about £18, the mugs are £10, an A4 photo is about £4 and the key rings are couple of quid as well.“If they made Westlife trousers and shoes we’d probably buy those too.”It’s those £4 A4 photographs that the Ely sisters have framed on their living room cabinets but having shopped around the country for Westlife knick-knacks they have made some happy finds.“I went to Blackpool in October and I found a Westlife pillow in a gift shop so that’s on my bed now,” said grandmother of five June, who lives with her partner Geoff.“It’s nice to cwtch into and it means I can say I have slept with Westlife.”Unfortunately, the sisters’ seats in front of the Irish foursome at Cardiff International Arena on Sunday night are the closest they have ever got to the band in real life.“We’ve never met any of them, more’s the pity,” said Joyce, a full-time carer for her 86-year-old mother Barbara, who has Alzheimer’s disease.“If I didn’t have to get back to my mum I’d wait outside the stage door for them all night.“But I get to see Shane every day this month because his face is on my calendar for March, which is nice because it’s my birthday.”Because the sisters have always enjoyed the same music as – they also share a love for The Everly Brothers and Billy Fury - it makes it easy to buy gifts for one another.June said: “We usually buy each other the latest Westlife album for Christmas and then just swap them over.”Westlife perform at Cardiff International Arena Tonight, tomorrow and Monday before returning to the venue on May 20.There are a limited number of tickets still available, priced at £32.50, available from the CIA box office on 029 2022 4488.

Westlife In Tesco Magazine

The Boys Are Back…

…topping the charts. Ten years on, Westlife are as popular as ever but what is that sends fans into a frenzy? Maxine Clayman discovers how their differences may be the secret of their success.Mr Perfection Shane FilanFrom Sligo, 28, admits he’s driven. He lives with his wife Gillian, Kian’s cousin, and their two-year-old daughter Nicole.”Being in the charts at number three isn’t good enough. In my eyes that’s a failure.”Without a doubt I’m driven. I’m very ambitious. I always want to do better than I did last week. For instance our single Home went into the charts at number three and even though it was beaten by two fantastic songs, in my opinion it isn’t good enough. It’s very close to number one but in my eyes that’s a failure.Although I do like to take control there’s no front man in the band. There are always decisions to be made and everyone’s right in their own way, which can be stressful. And, if anything, I’d say Kian’s more of the chairperson. He’s pushy, but in a good way, and we get on well. We’re really close - my wide Gillian is his first cousin.I suppose I’m a perfectionist in every area of life. I want everything to be better than it should be, in all aspects. But that doesn’t mean I’m a control freak, I’d like to think that I can go with the flow. And I try to keep Westlife separate from my private life.I’m very life my dad in that he had big dreams. Growing up we didn’t have a garden but he wanted to own a farm with loads of horses. He worked hard and achieved it and I’m the same. If I see something and I want to do it I try my utmost to make it happen. It’s the same with my house in Ireland. I love big houses and fancy architecture and, accordingly, I had to build my own. It wasn’t about being flash - if one of my neighbours has a better house, best of luck to them - I did it because I’m passionate about it. It makes me feel proud. And I’m proud that I was able to buy my dad a car. Not to show off but because he loves Mercedes. For me to be able to do that for him was one of the best moments in my life.Mr Pushy Kian Egan,Is pretty opinionated when it comes to the band. The 27-year-old from Sligo has been with his girlfriend, ex-Hollyoaks actress Jodi Albert, for four years.“I’ve no problem with speaking my mind”I was accused of slating the Spice Girls. But I just stood up for myself when they slagged us off. If someone is going to say something nasty about my band I’ll say something about theirs. Simple as that. Everyone’s entitled to their opinion. I’ve no problem with speaking my mind and if I believe I’m right I’ll say it.But I do hate the sound of my voice when I hear it back. It makes me cringe. So I try not to watch TV interviews I’ve done because I might analyse them and be critical of myself. And at the end of the day I am who I am. If people like me - great. If they don’t, they don’t. I only take it to heart if it’s people I care about, like my family and my friends, not when it’s people sitting at home making judgments about me.Since the start of the band I’ve always dealt with the management side of things - I tell the boys why we should do something and try to coax them into it. I can push quite hard but it’s because it’s my personal belief.I used to be the most argumentative in the band but the funniest thing is we only ever argue about what’s best for Westlife. And we never let problems go on till the end of the day - they get resolved before we go home. We’re like four brothers so any differences we might have are soon forgotten. It’s all water under the bridge. But I have calmed down quite a bit since meeting my girlfriend Jodi. And when I’m being an idiot she’ll tell me. Recently we were discussing our future plans. One of my goals is to build our house in Ireland. The second is to surf a barrel wave - it’s the kind that goes up over your head. And third is for us to get married, in no particular order, I hasten to add.Mr Happy Mark Feehily,Also from Sligo, Ireland, 27, and the youngest member of the band. He has had a new lease of life since meeting his partner Kevin McDaid.“Everyone goes through changes. Now in every way I’ve woken up and I’m embracing life.”Looking at how happy I am now, it’s funny looking back at how different I was at the start of the band. I was single, quiet and not very confident, at times kind of low. I was in Westlife purely because I wanted to sing. I didn’t dream of being rich or famous. I was only used to singing in my bedroom, I didn’t know how to act in a boy band with all the moves. I’ve never really been a natural performer. And for a long time I’d sit back and wish things were different. But I’d never do anything about it. So I didn’t have any right to complain life was passing me by.I guess everyone goes through changes and has their own insecurities. It’s part of growing up. Now I’ve got life experience on every level it’s given me a different outlook - I’m more positive and happier than I’ve ever been. In every way I’ve woken up and I’m embracing life. My relationship plays a large part in it. As a person your sexuality is an unspoken but big part of you. I came out at my own pace. I didn’t even know myself if I was gay or not in the early days. So I wasn’t hiding anything. I think deep down most of us would like someone special to go through life with. At the moment having a child wouldn’t be a consideration for me. But who knows one day it might be.My timekeeping is notoriously bad and I’m definitely not a morning person. I used to struggle getting out of bed. Since I’ve quit smoking it’s easier - I don’t wake up with my mouth tasting like an ashtray.I’ve also become more involved in other aspects of my life. For example, if I look bad in pictures because I haven’t been to the gym and I’ve been eating Chinese, I realise I can’t get upset. Now I’m working out, eating right, and I look and definitely feel better.Mr Funny Nicky Byrne,Loves playing practical jokes. The 29-year-old lives in Dublin with wife Georgina daughter of the Irish Prime Minister Bertie Ahern, and their twin boys Rocco and Jay.“I like to be a joker but other people sometimes get cheesed off with me.”I might be the oldest in the band but I’m definitely not the wisest. I like to be a bit of a joker. At times the others do get cheesed off with me, but usually I know when the time is right to mess about. It’s little things, like last week we all had the day off but had to do some interviews for Asian and German media. The companies were calling us as we were at our respective houses.Knowing that he was expecting a call I phoned Shane and pretended to be German and asked him to tell me about the new album Coming Home. Shane was trying to explain it was called Back Home when I asked him if he was the gay one. And then he realised it was a wind-up. The only time I might have gone too far was a few years ago. We were staying in a hotel and I emptied Kian’s toiletries out of his bag so they were everywhere. I sprayed shaving foam on the wall and unraveled the toilet paper - and he got particularly annoyed with me.But I come from a football background. I played for Leeds United, where I experienced practical jokes at a high level.Someone could walk into the changing rooms dressed in top-to-toe Armani and they’d literally get their shoes nailed to the floor. I once went back to Leeds for a visit when I first started in Westlife. I was wearing a pair of leather trousers worth a couple of grand. While I was having a kick-about one of the players put my clothes on, ran on the field and slid across the mud.But you have to be able to take a joke. And I think having a laugh is a great way to break the ice during difficult moments. But of course I do have a serious side, especially when it comes to my wife, as I like to be a bit of a romantic.Westlife’s album Back Home is out now.

Megan chats with Westlife

Pop superstars Westlife made a Northumberland youngster's day when they chatted to her backstage before a sell-out gig.The Irish fourseome all took time out from their hectic schedule to speak to Megan Armstrong at their concert at the Newcastle Arena earlier this week. The eight-year-old is battling a brain tumour on her brain that was diagnosed when she was a baby.Dad, Philip, said the youngster had loved meeting the band. "It was great. The fact that the guys gave up some of their time to chat with Megan and make a fuss of her was really good."They were obviously really busy, having been to a charity event earlier in the evening and they were about to go on stage, but they still had time for her. They asked how she was doing and where she was from, things like that. Fair play to them - they were genuinely lovely guys."The meeting took place before the band performed in front of 14,000 fans. Mr Armstrong said: Megan was absolutely delighted to be there and was very excited. She made them a little picture with stick men on it with their heads stuck on, with her in the middle, with a message on the back. Mark read it out and they were quite touched by it."After the meeting Megan, eight, joined the audience. Although it took a couple of songs for her sensitive ears to become accustomed to the loud noise, Mr Armstrong said his daughter was soon up singing along and dancing.Anyone who would like to donate to the appeal set up in Megan's name can visit the website on www.meganappeal.com

Westlife boys spare a moment for their No.1 fans

Westlife boys spare a moment for their No.1 fans from Carlow THEY MIGHT have been tired but Irish pop sensations Westlife still made time for their loyal fans from Carlow. Lucky cousins, eight-year-old Shania Carr from Idrone Park, seven-year-old Shannon Coakley from John Sweeney Park and ten-year-old Brandon Redmond from Riverview Close, Carlow town, chanced upon a meeting with the famous band on a flight back to Dublin recently. The three were returning from a family get-together in Leeds where they were celebrating the 70th birthday of their aunt Kathleen Kenny, originally from Tullow. The three Carlovians were lucky enough to be the only children on the plane and so were treated to some time with the Westlife boys. “We did hear that someone had seen them being snuck onto the plane and when we were going to get our seats they were sitting at the front but we were told that they were too tired to speak to anyone,” said Shania’s mum, Tracey Carr. “Once the plane got off the ground the kids went up to them anyway and they were very good to them. They got their pictures taken and they autographed Shania’s High School Musical book. I think they realised there were no more children on the plane so they made an exception,” she said. The only blight was that one of the band members refused to speak to the young Carlovians. Sligo man Kian Egan pulled his hood over his head and went to sleep but his fiancιe, former Hollyoaks actress Jodie Albert, more than made up for his bad behaviour. “She was absolutely lovely and was very apologetic about Kian but she chatted away to the kids instead,” said Tracey. “The children were absolutely delighted and it was a real treat for them, they are lovely lads.”

WESTS ON FIRE

Westlife fans know the boys are hot, but even the most devoted were surprised to see the group's performance set the roof on fire. As the popsters sang their new single Us Against The World at Newcastle Arena, a stray firework set the rigging alight and the boys had to flee for 10 minutes while firefighters tackled the blaze. Ever the pros, the lads came back and sang off-the-cuff versions of Take That's "Relight My Fire" and Prodigy's "Firestarter". Nicky told 3am: "It was a one in a million chance, but the fire service dealt with it and we got on with the show." Phew.

Westlife Us Against The World

*****
Westlife have decided to write another big melodramatic ballad which suggests they know exactly what their fans want from them. The song itself isn't half bad but one wonders if they aren't getting just a little tired of the same old same old. It certainly sounds like it

Westlife's Shane to be a dad again

Singer's joy as he reveals wife Gillian is to have second childWestlife star Shane Filan was celebrating last night after revealing he is to become a dad again.
The singer called the Irish Daily Mirror to announce the good news and revealed "I can't believe I'm going to become a pop papa for the second time"
He and his wife Gillian already have a two-year-old daughter Nicole.Gillian, 28, is 3 months into her pregnancy and announced the new to family and close friends earlier this week.
A thrilled Shane, 28, said "We're going to be off from the band for a year from the summer so it seems like the perfect time to add to our family."I'm absolutely over the moon and it's going to be incredible to have two children."We didn't want to leave it too long to give Nicole a little brother or sister so it's perfect timing."Gillian is an amazing woman and I feel so proud to be having another child with her"
Westlife have just kicked off their mammoth world tour which includes live dates around the UK, Ireland, Australia and the Far East. Eyebrows were raised at the Meteor Awards in Dublin a fortnight ago when Gillian refused to drink at the after-show party.
But the celebrity couple kept the news secret until their all-important three-months scan. They currently live between a luxurious seven-bedroom mansion in their hometown of Sligo and another sprawling home in Surrey. Shane's Westlife bandmates have also joined the parent club.
Nicky Byrne and his wife Georgina had twins last year while ex-band-mate Brian McFadden has two daughters Molly and Lily Sue with his ex-wife Kerry Katona.
Shane added "It's going to be hectic in the Filan household with two little ones running around but we really can't wait."With the band taking a year off it is going to give me the chance to get really stuck in and be a great dad. I'll be able to give Gillian all the help she needs."All our friends and family are thrilled."Now we are just looking forward to whatever the future brings."Paul Martin

Boyband keen to tour the Scandinavian country

Westlife are planning to tour Sweden - and they're looking forward to seeing some spectacular sights. Nope, not medieval ruins and beautiful lakes. Shane Filan and Nicky Byrne are both happily married men, but they like to be surrounded by beautiful blondes. 'If you want to find some good-looking women there are handfuls of them on every street corner in Sweden!' says Shane, 28. And Nicky, 29, is quick to agree. 'Even the average-looking women are absolutely amazing,' he adds. Mark Feehily, 27, prefers Scandanavian hunks. 'Of course Freddie Ljungberg is Swedish,' he says. 'His cheekbones are so sharp they could be used as a weapon! You can't take him on a plane.' Yeah, but footballer Freddie is in London playing for West Ham, Mark. You won't find him in Stockholm. Westlife's new single Us Against The World is out now. It's the second track to be taken from their album Back Home.

Fire at Westlife concert

Exclusive By Matt WestcottPOP heart-throbs Westlife raised the temperature in more ways than one tonight after part of their stage set at the MetroRadio Arena in Newcastle caught fire. The incident came part way through their Back Home gig in front of a packed audience.A spokeswoman for the Arena said the incident was dealt with quickly and the concert continued without the need for any evacuation. The fire brigade were not needed."A pyro went off and caused a small fire," the spokeswoman said. "But within 30 seconds it was extinguished by the venue's fire stewards."The incident happened around 9.30pm, 45 minutes into the concert by the Irish combo."Westlife actually mentioned it themselves while on stage to let the audience know that there was something happening," she said."We have trained fire stewards and they dealt with it quickly."The spokeswoman said the matter would be followed up later."There's always a follow-up investigation of any incident that happens at an event," she said.

Keegan swaps dug out for catwalk in charity show

by Alastair Craig, Evening Chronicle KING Kev swapped his manager’s coat for some designer gear last night. The Toon boss joined players to strut their stuff on a different stage at a charity fashion show. The Fashion Kicks catwalk show, in aid of the Macmillan Cancer Tyneside Appeal, raised thousands of pounds for research and specialist nurses.A packed crowd went wild as Keegan, defender Steven Taylor, midfielders Emre and Alan Smith and other first-teamers walked the walk in a packed marquee at St James’s Park.Keegan donned a leather jacket and designer shades to lap up the screams from the 1,000-strong audience. Toon chairman Chris Mort and owner Mike Ashley cheered them on.Newcastle United keeper Shay Given, whose mum Agnes died of lung cancer when he was five, is patron of the charity. “This is the third Fashion Kicks event because the previous ones have gone so well. The last one raised over £200,000 for Macmillan, so it’s great that we can do more,” he said.“It’s fantastic that Kevin and the players are so supportive, but I’m sure they won’t be swapping their football careers for modelling any time soon.“They don’t think of themselves as models, well not all of them anyway. It was hard getting some of them involved but they seemed to enjoy themselves.”Another highlight was an appearance by Irish boy band Westlife, who dashed from a sell-out concert at Metro Arena to support pal Shay.Singer Nicky Byrne said: “We did last year’s event and it was such a fabulous evening we jumped at the chance of coming again. It’s such a worthy cause.”Cash raised will also benefit the Teenage Cancer Trust, who were supported on the night by young performers from Tyne Theatre stage school. The Newcastle lads and celebrity chef Paul Rankin posed in collections by designers Armani, Hugo Boss, Prada and Dolce and Gabanna. The event was sponsored by Hooker and Young Hair Design, Cruise Clothing, Brakes Fresh Ideas and Nu-age medical spa.

Westlife add second Ulster date

Westlife have added a second date at the Odyssey this May after the first show sold out.The Irish boy band will now be performing at the venue on May 28, after tickets for the May 27 show were snapped up within days of going on sale. The band recently performed three sold-out dates in Ulster and are celebrating their tenth anniversary this year. They have always been a favourite with audiences in the Province. With 14 number one singles and nine albums, the four-piece are one of the most successful pop bands ever. And, with a decade in the music business, their longevity in the often fickle world of pop has made them a musical phenomenon. They have made Belfast's Odyssey Arena their own in recent years with a string of sell-out shows at the venue. The band's return to the Odyssey comes days before a mammoth tenth birthday celebration in Dublin's Croke Park on June 1.But the band have made no secret of their love for Northern Ireland audiences, and said on numerous occasions that the Province is one of their favourite places to perform.

This love is unbreakable

With all the Westlife lads happy in love, the band have revealed that without their partners they might be alcoholics or drug addicts.
The guys let Sunday Life into a secret - not only do they still get in trouble just like everyone else, but their partners are the people who keep them sane.
Shane who is married to Gillian Walsh (Kian's cousin) said 'if we didn't have our relationships the way they are and as strong as they are it would be crazy. Without having a relationship that gives you a stable side to your life you'd be a nut bag. I think without our partners we'd all probably be drug addicts or at night clubs drinking all night. You need a rock in your life, especially in this industry. You need that other half who is on Planet Earth all the time. The other half is that level of normality - without it we wouldn't be where we are today as a band.'
Mark also revealed that even Westlife can get in trouble. He's dating former boyband star Kevin McDaid. 'we get in trouble with our partners just as much as anyone else in a relationship - we're not special, we dont get any special treatment' he said.
And Nicky, who is married to Taoiseach Bertie Aherns daughter Georgina, said they even have phone fights in front of the band.
He said ' I always think its quite funny if you are in a room and somebody else is kind of fighting with the partner on the phone or something and you are sitting there listening, because you can't obviously close your ears. You kind of giggle to yourself, because you know when you are in that position its the most horrendous thing in the world. 'So when you're watching somebody else its actually quite funny, but you know they are going to get over it in 10 minutes time.'
Shane admits he tries his best with Gillian to skip the bit where she's angry with him. He revealed ' What I just say is, 'Look let's just skip this part and make up because we are going to make up either way' and she just starts laughing.'

Ticket chaos hits Westlife gig

TICKET problems caused huge queues outside a Westlife concert in Liverpool last night.

Hundreds of fans who bought tickets over the phone fromthe Ticketmaster agency dad to collect them from the ECHO Arena box office when they did not arrive through the post.

Long queues built up outside and tempers flared as concertgoers had to wait in the wind and rain for more than an hour.

The gig was delayed by 25 minutes so every fan could take their seat.

Kath Johnson, 55, from Liverpool city centre, said: “It has been horrendous. I have never known anything like it. I had to wait over an hour to get my ticket.”

Arena general manager Tim Banfield apologised to fans, saying: “The tickets were not sold by the ECHO Arena and we have asked the ticket agent concerned to explain why this arose.

"Hundreds of fans arrived with email print-outs and credit cards, and we had to check every transaction manually.”

The concert itself proved a big winner, with the queues and a two-minute power cut between songs in the middle of the gig failing to silence rows of screaming fans.

Westlife breaking records

WESTLIFE are back - for the umpteenth time - at Newcastle’s Metro Radio Arena next week, as Entertainment Editor GORDON BARR reports.
FORGET Take That, the newly-reformed Boyzone and even young pretenders McFly - none can compare to Irish pop stars Westlife when it comes to performing in Newcastle.
That has nothing to do with actual performance or material, though - rather it is based solely on the number of appearances and the number of people who have seen the chart-toppers at the city’s Metro Radio Arena.
When Westlife take to the arena’s stage on Tuesday it will mark their 26th concert at the venue - and you can add one more, when they return the following day too.
Love them or loathe them, that means more than a quarter of a million people will have seen Shane, Kian, Mark and Nicky there – a record that will be hard to beat.
The latest tour is called Back Home, and Westlife must feel that the Metro Radio Arena is, indeed, a home from home these days.
The shows follow the release on Monday of their latest single Us Against The World, from their Back Home album.
"Us Against The World is our favourite track on the album and one of our best songs ever,” says Nicky. “It has a beautiful melody and as soon as we recorded it we knew it just had to be a single.”
Mark adds: “This song is a symbol of Westlife recording the kind of songs we really believe in.
"Good quality well produced pop music, which is exactly what our loyal fans deserve. It’s a taste of what’s to come in the future.
"In my eyes it’s also one of our best vocal performances ever.”
Few pop bands can compare to Westlife’s remarkable success.
They are the only recording artists to win the Record Of The Year four times and other top awards include two Brits and an MTV Europe Award.
2008 is a special year for Westlife as it marks the 10th anniversary of their career and will celebrate this fact in spectacular style with a huge concert at Dublin’s Croke Park in June in front of more than 80,000 fans. The album Back Home has to date sold more than a million copies in just eight weeks.
Westlife are at the Metro Radio Arena in Newcastle on Tuesday and Wednesday next week.
