Denmark, Germany And Holland Concerts Cancelled

It's very sad, all the European Westlife concerts outside the UK and Ireland have been cancelled...
I'm very sorry for all the fans in Denmark, Germany, Holland and Norway.
Westlife Will Not Play Oberhausen
Cancellation of the European wing of the Westlife tour 2008
Oberhausen - Bad news for all Westlife fans: The band cancelled all European dates of their tour, including the one in Oberhausen on May 28th in the Kφnig-Pilsener-Arena. The declared reasons...
...for the cancellation are "of complicated productory nature", announces the host of the concert, Dirk Becker Entertainment. Tickets that have been purchased already can be returned to the ticket agencies.

Kian Set For Wet Life

Westlife hunk Kian Egan hopes everyone will be BOARD at his stag party.
The blonde haired crooner is planning to spend his last week of freedom as a single man SURFING.
The pinup is set to marry fiancee Jodi Albert, at the end of the year. But instead of a boozy blowout, Kian, 27 ,is opting for a more sensible send off.
He told The Irish Sun, "I think it will be surfing party ,I think.
"I’m not interested in a big mad session."A lot of my friends are into surfing and the rest of Westlife would give it a shot."It would be nice to do something different rather than the usual clubs and bars.
"The wedding will be at the end of the year. We haven’t set a date yet but it will be abroad.
"Jodi is delighted and I think everyone in our families is excited for us.
"Westlife kick off their European tour tonight at the Belfast Odyssey Arena. But it is coming home to Dublin and their biggest concert ever at Croke Park this summer that has the lads really excited.
Nicky Byrne said: "We can’t believe we are going to be doing that. Every time I drive past I get I get shivers up my spine. It is such massive achievement.
"It will be the biggest night of our professional careers. Croke Park is such a big part of Irish heritage.
"I went to see U2 there and a host of other bands and great team.
"As a kid you dream of playing there and now we get to as a band. The whole tour is going to be a build up to Croke Park.
"And for Kian he is amazed they will be playing to a sell out crowd. He said: "I didn’t think it would sell out. It was hard to believe that 80.000 people would come to see us. We have done 10 point gigs but that’s still 20.000 short.
"It is going to be totally incredible.”

Ourlife In A Westbook

OUR LIFE
Boyband write biography of their ten years as top of the pop pin-ups.
Westlife are planning a tell-all biography of their years at the top of the charts, the Irish Sun can reveal.
And the four lads have just signed a six-figure book deal to write the “warts-and-all” look at their lives as Ireland’s most successful pop act.
The boys spoke exclusively to the Irish Sun as they kicked off their sell-out European tour with a show at Belfast’s Odyssey Arena last night.
A delighted Nicky Byrne said: “We are just about to sign off on a deal to do a book. It is a tell-all autobiography – all our stories over the past ten years.
"It will be a warts and all book – there isn’t really all that sleaze or behind-the-scenes rowing that we have to write about.
"But it is an honest review of everything we have done over the past decade, all the highs and lows.
"The highs are No1s all over the world, playing sell-out tours, getting married and meeting the Popes.“As for the lows, some of us have lost grandparents in the band and Brian leaving.“It is the real Westlife and I think our fans have been loyal enough to deserve a truthful account of our lives.”
Shane Filan hopes the book will give a different view of the guys.
Funny
He said: “There are a lot of stories that we haven’t actually told before and I think it is going to be a very funny book.
"A lot of people think that we are four boring lads with seats stuck to our arses. Our real fans know this isn’t true. But I think the average punter who isn’t into us has a different view.
"They know the faces but just think that we are just another boy-band.”
The crooners also laughed off claims from Sinead O’Connor that they can’t sing live.
The bald one created a stir before the recent Meteor Awards by saying Boyzone and Westlife wouldn’t sing live on the night.
Sinead said: “Myself and the Republic Of Loose will be performing live at the Meteor Awards – unlike Westlife and Boyzone who’ll mime. All our vocals will be 100 per cent live.
But after last night’s exhilarating live show, Mark Feehily hit back.
He said: “I have always respected Sinead through the years as someone who speaks her mind. Yet lately she always seems to be slagging someone off.
"These days you just associate the name Sinead O’Connor with negative comments. She is always complaining or giving out. Maybe she just needs to take a really long holiday and get a suntan or something.
Luck
"Best of luck to her. If that is what she wants to be remembered for, then I hope she has a very happy successful life.”
Westlife are on the verge of bagging a staggering 15th No1 hit.
And Nicky believes their next release could go straight to the top. He said: “We all agreed the single Us Against The World was going to be one of the standout songs of the album.
"We are delighted to finally have it released now.
"The problem we have had with this album is that even though 90 per cent of it was original, we launched it with a cover.
"When we go on to the general public about our great original pop album, they see a Michael Buble cover. It didn’t do bad for us but it was just predictable Westlife. We were never predictable in the past with the likes of Flying Without Wings and that – so we just want great songs now."
This album is a stepping stone for where we want to be after our break.”
Kian Egan has made a personal guarantee to Westlife fans: “Things will only get better.”
He said: “We don’t have a release date when we come back.
"We’re just going to sit down and make a record – and hopefully it will be what we want.
"When you do nine albums in nine years, the quality of the songs will slip.
"If we continued to come back with the same approach we would run out of steam. In the past we wanted to release something no matter what. Not any more. We need the right people out searching for incredible songs – no matter how long it takes.
"When we have 12 or 13 great songs we can then go on and make an amazing album.
Love
"Our record company will think of a themed album if we don’t have an amazing song like The Love Album.
"And because they always do well, they are happy with that. But for us it felt like we were running ourselves into the ground and becoming a sort of covers band.
"We never wanted that image and it’s not what we are. Westlife do need a bit of a break-away from the music business and it has come at the right time for us.”
Mark added: “It was becoming more difficult to be proud of what we were doing with the types of album we were making.
"The record company are happy as long as we are selling records. But to us it matters a great deal.
"We want to give our fans quality and that is another reason why we want to take time and go back to basics.
"I think when Home went to No.3 in the charts the record company finally realised that you don’t automatically get a No1 when Westlife release a song.
"And that could end up being the best thing to come from that track.”
Shane thinks it is up to the record company to find the best original material for the band.
And he warned that fans won’t put up with another cover album.
He said: “Home was a nice version but we don’t want to do that any more. We didn’t get famous for singing covers.
"And over the past few years we have done a lot of them – purely because there wasn’t a lot of great original music out there.
"Maybe the record company weren’t looking hard enough.
"This time around those songs will have to be found because we want to make a fantastic album.”
WESTLIFE’s new single Us Against The World hits the shelves this Saturday.

You're Nicked!

COP a look at this friendly-faced garda – it’s Nicky Byrne on patrol in Dublin.
The Westlife singer went under-cover to live out his dream and pound the beat in the capital.
And he made an arresting sight when he caught up with shifty-looking character – comic and TV presenter Jason Byrne.
Out went Nicky’s leather trousers and coiffed blond locks, in came short dark hair and the full guard’s uniform as he became Garda Mick Byrne for TV series Anonymous.
Stupid
"I actually did the aptitude test for the guards before I got into Westlife, so this show was a dream come true for one day.”
But it was a nightmare for unsuspected members of the public as he set out to clean up the streets of Swords and arrest people for walking too fast.
"I can’t believe the respect people had for me and the way they did all of the stupid things I told them,” he laughed.
Garda Mick also caused havoc in the Jervis Street Shopping Center with his motorized shopping trolley. And he managed to completely fool his parents as well as best mate, soccer star Gary Kelly and Rugby ace, Brian O’Driscoll.
A Garda spokesman said they had no problem with Nicky posing as a guard for a day,
"Under section 61 of the Garda Siochana Act 2005, it’s fine for a person to wear any Garda uniform for TV, film or theatre," he said.
Nicky had actually been waiting for the results of the police aptitude test when he was encouraged to audition for a new boyband called IOU.
Since shooting to fame and fortune with the renamed Westlife, and marrying Taoiseach’s daughter Georgina, he’s more at home with screaming fans that screeching sirens, but he took it all in his stride.
The show kicks off the third series of Anonymous which also includes an eagerly-anticipated episode in which model Glenda Gilson disguises herself as eco warrior Mairead Ni Bauchalli and launches her ‘Ugg Boots For Africa’ campaign.
Anonymous begins a new season on RTE Two at 9:30pm on Monday March 3.

Norway Concert Cancelled

I just read that Westlife's concert in Norway was cancelled... I'm very sorry for the Norwegian fans and everyone who was going.
Apparently they cancelled it because of the time, and that they can`t get all the things over in Norway in time for the concert.

Shane's Filan Mashed After The Meteors...

Shane 'housing developer' Filan sure hit the sauce hard when he and the rest of the Westlife bunch partied at the Meteor Awards recently. In fact he was pisshhed! When the pop four-piece turned up at the Krystle after party, Shane looked like he was about ready to go find kebabs and curry chips on Dame Street... We've ALL been there folks. Hic.
Apparently Westlife's Shane 'the one who sings' Filan has only recently discovered a taste for Guinness. But from the looks of our post-Meteor Awards pictures we'd say he's developed a taste for Gunniess, Harp, Heineken, Smithwicks, Bud, Coors, Babysham, Snowballs, Buckfast and eh Scrumpy Jack. A true connoisseur of alcoholic beverages.
Shane Filan
It seems that our Shane is what we like to call, a 'pointy-drunk' person. You know the ones who are always pointing the finger all over the gaff when they've had one-too-many? One of those types. Think of your Da on Christmas night after skin-full. Got it? Yeah, that's it.
Shane Filan, Gillian Filan
Luckily Mr. Filan had his sexy new wife Gillian by his side to lead the way into the club and probably say things like: "wait till I get you home Mister" and "no, he's alright. He just needs air".
Kian Egan, Jodi Albert
Kian 'the brains of the operation' Egan was also at the VIP club with his fiancee Jodi Albert. It seems Kian likes to protect his partner's posterior from the prying paparazzi. Either that, or he was just giving the prospective wife an aul pat on the arse.
Nicky Byrne, Georgina Byrne
The rest of the Westlifers seemed far more reserved at the celeb-tastic afterparty. Nicky 'little Bertie' Byrne turned up with his wife Georgina looking like he spent the night on soft-drinks. Well, they have new born twins on the go, so it's responsible parenthood from here on out. Scary.
Kevin McDaid, Mark Feehily
Finally, Mark 'I miss my Saffie' Feehily and his fella Kevin McDaid marched proudly through the crowd of snappers linking-arms to get access to the club. Is it just us or do Mark & Kev look a bit like mannequins from the window of Next? A bit too perfectly groomed... The Stepford husbands.

Westlife to return to Belfast in May

Westlife, who performed the first of three sold-out dates in Ulster last night, have announced they will return to Northern Ireland in May.
The Irish boy band, who are celebrating their tenth anniversary this year, have always been a favourite with audiences in the Province.
With 14 number one singles and nine albums, the four-piece are one of the most successful pop bands ever.
And, with a decade in the music business, their longevity in the often fickle world of pop has made them a musical phenomenon.
They have made Belfast's Odyssey Arena their own in recent years with a string of sell-out shows at the venue.
The band will return to the Odyssey on May 27 for a show which comes days before a mammoth tenth birthday celebration in Dublin's Croke Park on June 1.
But the band have made no secret of their love for Northern Ireland audiences, and said on numerous occasions that the Province is one of their favourite places to perform.
Westlife perform at the Odyssey Arena on May 27. Tickets for the show will go on sale from usual outlets on March 1 at 9am.

Interview with Kian Egan

Marsya translated an interview of Kian from an Indonesian magazine. They interviewed Kian through phone. Thanx very much for translating it Marsya!
Hi Kian! Tell us about Westlife's new album Back Home!
-"There are a lot of special things in this album. There is a lot of variety, a lot of tempo, and different style in this album. We're gonna give surprises cos it's the best thing we've ever recorded. The songs are much stronger than the ones in previous albums. I'm sure our fans will love it."
Did you try to write your own songs?
Well, no. We know we're just singers not songwriters. And we trust the professional songwriters who write those songs for us."
Who wrote the songs in this album?
"There are many of em! Wait, wait, I'll try to remember..hmm...there's Steve Mac. He was the one who wrote singles like Swear It Again. Hmm...who else...there are too many or em! They often write songs for Britney Spears, Backstreet Boys, and N Sync."
Your music seems to have developed into more "adult". Is it because your fans are getting older as well?
"Yeah. Becoming mature is what we're facing. We can't be young forever."
I see. I heard the new single is "Home", Michael Buble's song. Why do Westlife like to do covers?
"Well...there are a lot of great songs like Home that has never been a big hit. Michael Buble fans are different to ours so we're trying to sing that song for our fans and introducing the song to the world."
Why did you name this album "Back Home"?
"Because our first single is Home so we named the album with the words that have the same meaning. Back Home also reflects us; we're back doing what we're doing best: singing pop songs."
Do you still keep in touch with Brian McFadden?
"Yes. We often meet, although he's in Australia with his girlfriend Delta Goodrem now. We're still good friends with Brian. We have a great relationship."
Is there a possibility that Brian might come back to Westlife?
"No."
What are you guys trying to prove in this album?
"We're not trying to prove anything. We're just trying to make a great pop album, great pop songs for our fans. We just wanna be a great pop band and create great music. That's the most important thing for us."
What is the key to still remain together after 10 years?
"Maybe it's because we're very good friends. Our key is honesty. So if there's something that's bothering us we talk about it straight away. And that makes us love to perform together rather than going solo."
If Westlife splits up, what are you gonna do? Do you guys have plans?
"We never had other plans. We're just going this through. But if Westlife split up, I'd love to go around the world for a year. Then after that I'd think what I'm gonna do next."
Kian, Shane was married to your cousin right? Does that change your relationship with Shane?
"No. Not at all! Things are good for us. We have a very good relationship."
So when will you come back to Indonesia to promote the new album?
"Oh, I love Indonesia. I hope soon. Cos it will be great."

TOUR SETLIST UPDATES

*Edit*
The concert finished and the full Set List is now up.

Westlife On TVNZ (New Zealand)

What were you doing back in 1998? Well for five Irish lads it was the year they formed Westlife and helped boost the whole boy band phenomenon. Westlife are tied with Cliff Richard and only just behind Elvis, and that boy-band from the sixties, the Beatles, when it comes to number one hits in Britain. Westlife's had 14 number one singles and have sold a whopping 36 million records worldwide. But as Europe correspondent Mark Crysell asks, after 10 years at the top - and now minus Bryan McFadden - are Westlife too grown up to now seriously call themselves a boy band.

Westlife On New Zealand TV

Westlife were on a New Zealand TV channel giving an interview and Jess made a transcript of what was said. Thank you Jess!

Voice over: Hunky, spunky, not all that funky; clean, keen and certainly not mean. That’s the public image of Westlife but the reality can be a bit different.

Cut to Shane: Jeez, I’ve such a bad hangover; *beep* it’s not even funny. My liver is just saying, don’t do that ever again to me.

Clip of winning Meteor award for best pop act the previous night.

How are you all feeling today:

Shane: Great actually, I didn’t drink last night; I went to bed early.

Kian: Not really, no.

Nicky: That’s a lie.Shane: *nods* I’m lying right now, straight through my teeth. A bit of a hangover today, but we’re not too bad. We were celebrating our win.

They celebrated as only Irishmen can

Shane: Mixing champagne and Guinness (look of pleasure comes across his face).

Introduction time… noted that each of the boys said his full name EXCEPT Kian!

How big? Well, they’ve topped the British charts 14 times. That puts them in third place for the most number ones behind the Beatles and Elvis Presley, and tied with Cliff Richard.

When are you going to take out Cliff?

Shane: We need to take out Cliff soon.

Nicky: And we need to beat him as well! It’d be good. There’s a new single out in a week’s time in the UK and Ireland.

Are you competitive in that way?

Kian: Yeah, we’re quite competitive. It’s not … I wouldn’t say competitive, as such. We’re ambitious.

Westlife holds the record for the most consecutive number ones … until this (clip of Bob the Builder).

You had seven singles debuted at number one, and then … Bob the Builder.

What do you think when you see ‘can we fix it?’

Mark: Can we break it?!

The lads were signed by Simon Cowell who’s gone on to make millions by being rude to people on American Idol.

Is Simon Cowell a bastard in real life?

Nicky: He’s not a bastard. He’s a *beep* bastard *laughs*

Shane: He’s a rich bastard! *laughs* A very rich bastard!

While they’re pop and proud, it doesn’t stop Westlife acting like rock stars and throwing the furniture out of a hotel room.

Mark: Well, it wasn’t very rock and roll cause I looked out the window first to make sure there was nobody there.

Kian: He was drunk and …

Mark: You know, it was just a silly, kind of hyper, giddy night out.

The incident came just before Mark admitted publicly that he was gay.

Did it affect the band in any way when you came out?

Shane: We got more fans!

Nicky: To be honest with ya, I wasn’t very happy with that at all *laughs with Mark*

Mark: Obviously, every boy band, there’s that thing with the fans where they fancy them, or dream about marrying them some day. I think that people like us for our songs and our voices. It's not like I shattered loads of girls’ dreams because they thought they were actually going to marry me and now I’m gay, you know?

Ten years later, Westlife are still pumping out the chart toppers. Surprising when you realise that most boy bands fizzle and die after a couple of numbers ones, rehab and a supermodel girlfriend.

Ten years on, are you still a boy band?

Shane: I think we’ll always be called a boy band, you know. Even if we’re together when we’re fifty. We’re a pop group, in our eyes. We just make pop music.

You’re not going to be a man band?

Shane: We’re a man band. We’re a young man band! But we feel young. I suppose with Take That - we were kind of the granddads of pop, and now Take That and Boyzone are back; now we feel like obviously kids again cause they’re older than us spring chickens!

But all those records and the sell-out tours don’t mean diddly to the critics. Westlife have grown to accept that they’ll never be quite cool and they don’t care.

Kian: Look, at the end of the day, the people who are buying them albums, are the people who we care about. The people who come to our concerts are the people who we care about. And it’s our aim to continue to make the best music that we can for them, and they’re our real critics!

Mark Sainsbury (anchor) summing up: And you might just see Kian at a beach near you. Kian’s a keen surfer and hoping to hit the waves when Westlife tour New Zealand in May.

UK Charts

'Us Against The World' is at No.58 this week in the UK Singles chart. This is just from Official Downloads of the song that count towards the chart. In the albums chart.

'Back Home' is down to No.48 from last week's No.42.

In the UK Airplay chart, 'US Against The World' is up at No.24 from last week's No.28.

To The Belfast Fans From Westlife

SHANE FILAN: “To all the Belfast fans, thanks for all your support all the time in Northern Ireland.
"This is going to be our 10th anniversary tour and it’s a very special tour with a very good set list.
"This is the best set list we have ever done, without a doubt. The show is about 20 minutes longer than it usually is.
“Don’t leave before the encore, the encore is worth waiting for."
AND NICKY BYRNE WARNS: To the fans: “Don’t book your taxi too early. Don’t leave before the end.”
To the parents: “Don’t be trying to pick them up early - make sure they see the best bit. Don’t worry about the traffic.”

And we can't wait for you to see the show: when we walked in on Monday and saw the stage set, we were blown away, it's just amazing. We're really pleased with the set list, and are hard at work perfecting the new routines.Tomorrow is our first full run of the show, which should be interesting...! No, seriously, it'll be great to see how it all comes together. We think this is a really special tour, and we hope you like it. After all, we're celebrating ten years of Westlife!Speaking of which, we hope you like our new single, ‘Us Against The World' (out 3rd March). As you can see from the video, this song is a reflection of all that we've been through over the past decade: us, our families, and you the fans. It's been a great ride so far, and thank you for joining us... Here's to ten more years!!Right, better get back. We finish rehearsals here on Saturday before flying back to Ireland ready for our first show in Belfast on Monday. We can't wait to get on the road and say hi to some familiar faces, and a few new ones!
See you soon,
Love Shane, Kian, Nicky & Mark x"

Nicky And Georgina With The Twins In Hello! Magazine

Nicky Byrne and his wife Georgina Ahern, daughter of Irish prime minister Bertie Ahern, last week were getting set to spend their first 14 February as a foursome, taking a pre-valentines day stroll in London with their ten month old twins Rocco and jay. The tiny tots not only looked exactly alike, sporting spiky blonde hairdos just like dad, they were also kitted out in matching adidas track suits. However, Nicky has said that they have very different personalities. “Jay is the loudest - he has a good set of lungs,” he said of his new babies last spring. “Rocco’s a bit quieter, but he’s feistier!” The twins have come a long way since their birth last April, when they arrived six weeks prematurely by caesarean section. Weighing it at just three pounds each, the boys required a lengthy hospital stay, coming home to their delighted and certainly relieved mum and dad in late may. Georgina and Nicky are famously family oriented - Rocco’s middle name Bertie, is in honour of the taoiseach, while Jay Nicky was named after Nicky’s dad - and when they married, they were already dreaming of the patter of tiny feet. “Having a stable family home with children is really important to us,” Georgina told hello! As exclusively covered their spectacular French wedding in 2003. “Nicky wants five children, but I’d be happy with three. He’ll make a brilliant dad.” The couple christened the twins last July in the village of Malahide, a seaside suburb of Dublin. Nicky’s westlife bandmates were among the guests and Mark Feehily remarked on how much they members’ lives have changed. “Looking back, to think when we were 18 it was going to be like this, having kids and still being together… it’s great,” he said. With over a dozen of number one hits under their belts and around 40 million albums sold, westlife are certainly still going strong. The band will kick off their ten-year anniversary tour this month in Belfast, and their new single, Us Against The World, will be out in March. But this time round, Nicky will be taking it all in from the perspective of a young dad. “It’s just fantastic,” he has said of fatherhood. “They grow up so quickly, it’s amazing.”

Videos, Pictures & Article From The Meteors

Newminutenews.com added two videos from the Meteor Ireland Music Awards, the one is a short interview of Mark and Kevin and the other shows Shane, Gillian, Nicky, Mark and Kevin.

One of the most anticipated dates on the music industry calendar was held on Friday night, for the 8th year running, orange carpet and all! The Meteor Awards were hosted at the RDS. where all of Irelands elite musicians gathered. Bands and Singers who attended were: The Blizzards, Republic of Loose, The Coronas, Aslan, Future Kings Of Spain, Duke Special, Westlife, Damien Rice, The Saw Doctors, Shayne Ward, Boyzone, to name but a few! Also in attendance were Glenda Gleeson, Sarah Morrissey, Pippa O’Connor, Keith Barry, Brian Dowling as well as Hollywood Actors Stuart Townsend and Charlize Theron With performances from Boyzone, Westlife, Shayne Ward, A duet from Sinead O’Connor and Republic Of Loose...First to take an award home on the night was Westlife winning ‘Best Irish Pop Act’. A lively Shane Filan said of the win “This is our 8th Meteor award in the 10 years of Westlife” When asked will they be recording another album anytime soon, Shane replied “When we finish this tour, coming up we will be taking a break for 6 - 7 months, and then we will be going back into the studio”. When Kian was asked when will his big day be, Shane said that Kian and Jodi Albert will be getting married during Westlife’s 6 - 7 month break. Shane said “They wont be getting married at home or Europe, ‘It will be somewhere tropical!” You could tell that the guys were very excited to win there 8th consecutive award, later back at the Press Conference the guys decided to play rock, paper, scissors!… Nicky was asked by a journalist for the Metro Newspaper, “Would You Buy Bertie a Digger?” and Nicky replied “Of course I would buy my father in law a digger.…What kind of f*****g question is that?!”

Unbreakable

Sligo’s pride, Westlife, have been in the business for ten years. Proof [if ever proof was needed] that the boys are ‘Unbreakable’!To date, they’ve had 14 UK number one singles. They’ve sold over 40 million records worldwide. Only the legendary Elvis Presley and The Beatles have had more chart-topping hits. But the lads, three of whom hail from Sligo, haven’t always been ‘Flying Without Wings’. In 2004, they had to battle against ‘Against All Odds’ when band member Brian McFadden walked out.But in the face of adversity, the remaining four really showed ‘What Makes A Man’! They will celebrate their anniversary with a sell-out gig at Dublin’s Croke Park in June.So from all at the Sligo Post: Well done lads! But we should hardly be surprised. In fact, you could say their ten years at the top was ‘Written In The Stars’!

Jodi juices up Meteor Awards

THE CREAM of Ireland's musical talent, and WESTLIFE, turned up to the Meteor Ireland Music Awards in Dublin last Friday. The crooners managed to scoop a gong, Best Pop Act, but their appearance was overshadowed by JODI ALBERT's plummeting neckline. BOYZONE didn't need one of their spouses to take the limelight off their presence, their clothes did that for them. Special mention must go to SHANE LYNCH, who took time away from his burger van outside to pose for photos while still in uniform. In the international categories, AMY WINEHOUSE bagged another award, for Best Female, while RADIOHEAD won Best Band. ARCADE FIRE claimed Best Album for Neon Bible and Muse won Best International Live Performance.

Mark - LIFE AS I KNOW IT

Mark, 27, is part of chart-topping band Westlife. His partner is former boyband singer Kevin McDaid Words by Simon Button .If I could change anything about myself I'd… have a six-pack. I do go to the gym and I'm trying to get myself in shape, but I'm nowhere near there yet. The most romantic thing anyone's ever done for me… was when my partner, Kevin, got me a massive chocolate chip cookie with "Happy birthday" engraved on it. We were in California and he popped out to the local mall to get it made for me. Not a lot of people know this, but I'm very good at… tennis. When I was at school I played tournaments, but singing gave me even more of a buzz so I gave up sport for rock'n'roll. To wake myself up I… finish my shower with a blast of cold water. That always does the trick. Last thing at night I always… wet my hair to get rid of all the products in it. When I have time to myself I… write songs, but they're for myself rather than for the band. When I'm feeling down I… have to get out and about. I'll go for a walk and head for somewhere busy, like the West End, to take my mind off things. My best friend is… Kevin, and also a lad back home in Ireland who I've known since I was at school. My "happy place" is… when I'm in a room full of friends having a few drinks, chatting and catching up.The best thing my parents taught me is… to have manners. One thing I can't stand is when people don't have the common courtesy to be nice to you. If I can I always try to avoid… confrontation. I've become better at it when I need to stand up for myself, but I'm usually laid back and don't get into arguments. It's not good for my image but I like… crepes with Nutella on them. They're not good for my image because they give me a big fat belly. If I could pass any law I'd… stop certain taxes, like when you want to give your parents money and the taxman wants a big chunk of it. The song I can never get out of my head is… Mercy by Duffy. It's so catchy and she has a great voice. I drive… a Mini Cooper and also an Audi Q7 jeep. If I could be anyone else I'd be… Jim Carrey, just to see how he comes up with all those crazy comedy ideas. My favourite love song is… Nothing Compares 2 U, but the original Prince version. His vocals are amazing on it. When I was a child I wanted to be… either Jan-Michael Vincent from Airwolf or Lee Majors in The Six Million Dollar Man. My biggest regret is… I honestly don't have any. I've been very lucky in life and nothing bad has happened so far, touch wood. My proudest moment was… when I heard we'd sold out Croke Park in Dublin. We're playing there in June and the only bands who have sold out the place before us are huge acts like U2 and Bon Jovi. The shop I can't walk past without buying something is… the Vans in Covent Garden. The trainers are so cheap you can buy loads of them.' It's silly how many pairs I have around the house. The most expensive thing I've ever splashed out on is… two portraits of the performance artist Leigh Bowery. They cost me a lot of money but I know they'll be worth even more in the future. I always laugh at… South Park and Shameless, although the latter was better when it first started. I know I'm having a bad hair day when… I've let it grow a bit. Hairdressers say I have the weirdest hair - it goes all over the place and is very unmanageable - so I try to keep it short. The best day of my life… is impossible to say, I've had so many great days, but I remember having a barbecue in Ireland last summer, with all my friends and family around me, and that felt pretty wonderful. My favourite restaurant is… anywhere where they serve Japanese food, like Wagamama and Itsu. The last film I saw was... The Simpsons Movie. I liked it even better than the IV show. On my last holiday… Kevin and I went to Amsterdam for a weekend recently. It was cold and crisp and it's such a beautiful city to walk around. My last meal would be… my mum's full-on Sunday roast, followed by the biggest lump of chocolate fudge cake imaginable.

Nicky’s Fury At Bertie Jibe

Star's anger when quizzed over dig-out Nicky fumes over 'dig-out' Bertie'WESTLIFE star Nicky Byrne blew his top after being asked about father-in-law Bertie Ahern's tribunal affairs, during the Meteor Awards. He lost his cool after he was asked by a reporter if he would 'give Bertie a dig-out'. The question - a reference to the Taoiseah receiving money from friends for his financial troubles during his marriage split during the 1990's - angered Nicky who was at the bash with wife Georgina. "Of course I would give me father-in-law a dig-out, wouldn't you give your father-in-law a dig-out? What kind of question is that?!" fumed the Dubliner.Nicky, 29, demanded to know where the reporter who asked the question was from. When he was told, the singer replied sarcastically, "Yeah well, that’s good for you". Presenter Nikky Hayes from 2FM quickly moved to another question before the band finished the press conference and left quickly. The source added: "Westlife has nothing to do with the Taoiseach's private affairs and Nicky was raging to be asked about it." "The band had just won Best Irish Pop Act and they were delighted about it and wanted to talk about that and their plans." "But this really put a damper on it things, especially for Nicky. The other lads were also raging about it." "Nicky and the Taoiseach have a really good father-in-law relationship & son-in-law relationship and they get on really, really well." "The Taoiseach has been very supportive of Westlife over the years and vice versa. But first and foremost he is Nicky's father-in-law and grandfather of Nicky and Georgina's twin boys, Rocco and Jay." A SENIOR member of the PDs broke ranks yesterday and attacked Bertie Ahern. Former Junior Minister, Tim O'Malley said he was 'not happy' with what he was hearing from the Mahon Tribunal.

Sleeping Beauties

Westlife's NIcky Byrne and wife Gerorgina certaily dont have to deal with twin terror - if this pictures is anything to go by.The happy couple had a leisurely stroll in London yesterday, as their good as gold boys Jay, right, and Roccoleft, snoozed away. And its also plain to see Bertie Ahernes daughter Georgina is back to her stunning best just ten months adter she gave birth to her bundels of joy.Nicky was taking a break from rehearsals for Westlife ten year anniversary tour, starting in Belfast on 25th February. And it seem the time together has the family flying without wings.
